About the upgraded Model S. One even arguing if an M5 had a rolling start it’d be faster. That’s quite a length to go to attempting to discredit it. Either way I dont care, when I’m rich I want one and I’m painting it yellow

having ridden in a D and done several launches I wholeheartedly disagree. the D has awd and launches itself almost instantaneously with minimal wheel spin. the m5 cant do that based on the many drag strip videos ive seen of it. in short this car is next level and basically puts all gasoline cars to shame. also it scares me to think what would happen if tesla found 1000 lbs to ditch out of that thing

‘cares about front page.
I see Teslas all over town, and just yesterday I was driving behind one. I dunno if the driver floored it or not, but the thing just flew... and all I heard is tire noise! So weird.

Traveling flat out at 71.5 mph :)

I wasn’t trying to discredit the Tesla at all. I was nit-picking the original commentator’s assertion that anything short of an Agera R wouldn’t stand a chance in a race, which is silly.
Although I was pointing out that acceleration isn’t only about 0-60, I never said the Tesla’s time isn’t impressive. I’m just tired of the constant 0-60 circle jerk. Who actually accelerates at full throttle from a stop on the street? Rolling starts are also relevant to road course racing, my friend! ;)

I’ve driven a standard 85, and it made every other car in its size and price range look obsolete. If I had the coin I wouldn’t even cross-shop anything else, they’re just amazing.

Just wait, battery tech will make sure that happens. It will be terrifying.
And Dinan will figure out a way to add 1000 ft-lbs of torque or something loco like that.

It is faster, can’t argue that.

They mentioned making another roadster. If that thing has anywhere near this kind of power it’ll be completely bonkers.

I need to experience one some day. If they manage to get a bigger range on these things in future they’ll be one of the best all round cars on the planet.

It must be eerie to plant your foot and take off with no noise.

True, but I would like to see whether an M5 could actually pull away at a 50mph roll. I didn’t think it tailed off until it was into the 100s. Plus it’d be a small difference and barely anyone races the things anyway.

I always crack up when I read that.

Kind of off topic, but I’ve been obsessed with yellow Porsches recently. I kind of want a yellow 997.

True. I think the Ludicrous mode will handily edge out the M5, RS7, etc from a rolling start.
I firmly believe the current P85D is slower from a rolling start than the RS7, M5, etc.

Porsches do suit yellow. I like the Cayman in it.

The Tesla will rule from a rolling start. 5-60, you can’t rev the engine and launch. But the D can go full torque because it’s electric

If I had a Model D I would accelerate full throttle on the street, to 40, 60, 70, and so on. Thats what its good at, that’s one of the things Ill use it for. I may get one in the next couple years.

From a rolling start, yeah I reckon an M5 could probably take it. The P85D is like the GTR. It’s all about the launch off the line. Still there is more to the Tesla than 0-60 times.

Do it, Man!
I’m afraid your username will have less relevance at that time if it’s your only car, though. ;)

Haha, Ill try to keep at least a couple manuals around. But Ill add aka Doyouevenelectron to the end of it

That’s why I am not interested, it’s like watching a movie with no sound.

Yeah its an impressive car overall.

My car makes a bit of gearbox noise then a slight thrum above 4000 rpm. I’m used to quiet.

I drive a V8 with Flowmaster exhaust kind of on the opposite end.

I can only imagine. An electric motor would be the only excuse to pipe noise into the cabin.

The only electric car I've gotten to drive is the Mercedes B class. It's rated to get to 60 in 7.9 seconds. The lack of sound makes it feel so much faster. Well that and the instant torque. I can't imagine how insanely fast a Tesla feels!

I really need to drive one some day.
